Indoor
Bowls Tournament
A huge thank you to all the members and bowlers at the Newark Indoor
Bowls Club. They held their annual fundraising event on Sunday 6th
April 2008 with the winning team members receiving the Beaumond
House Challenge Trophy.
It was a wonderfully successful day that raised a phenomenal £3,035
for the Hospice.
During the day there was a raffle, auction, guess the weight of the
cake, to name but a few of the fundraising ideas.
Our grateful thanks to all the local businesses who supported this
event by generously supplying items for the raffle and auction. A
lunch was also provided, prepared and served by willing volunteers.
Special thanks to Bentleys Fish & Chip Shop for providing the pies
and potatoes and to Laurens for supplying the dessert.
Thank you once again to all the helpers for making this such a
brilliant event and of course extra special thanks to Steve Ayling
who works so tirelessly to organise the event each year. Well done
Steve.
Our new Managing Director
We’d
like to extend a warm welcome to Mr Patrick Fisher our new Managing
Director, who started working with us on the 1st April.
Patrick has an NHS heritage and is a qualified Radiographer. He
joined the Pharmaceutical Industry in 1989 and has held senior
management positions in various Pharmaceutical and service
organisations.
He has also been a voluntary director of the Emmaus Trust since 1996
and is the Vice Chair of Governors at All Saints RC School
Mansfield.
Patrick is married to Jo who is a Radiographer at Newark Hospital,
they live locally and have 5 children, yes 5!!
Other than his family keeping him busy and his involvement with the
community of Newark, Patrick has a passion for cooking and enjoys
the occasional pint of good quality Cider
We’d also like to welcome 2 new members to our board of Directors,
Dr Julie Barker and Mr John Reynolds
Goodbye
Di.
It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful
receptionist Di Garner, who retires at the end of May after over 12
years service for Beaumond House. Di is our afternoon receptionist
and has always greeted everyone with a smile and nothing is too much
trouble.
Thank you Di, we’ll really miss you and we hope you enjoy your
retirement.
After 17 years of sterling service as a Director of Beaumond House,
Marion Rawlin has decided to resign her position.
She has thoroughly enjoyed her time as Director and still intends to
remain very much involved. She will continue to support us through
our events and fundraising initiatives. Thank you Marion for all
your hard work over the years.
If you have the will, we have the way
Will you join the growing number of people who are supporting
Beaumond House Community Hospice by leaving us a gift in your Will?
These gifts are vital to fund our increasing running costs and help
us to continue providing our special services to the local
community.
How will your gift help?
Beaumond House Community Hospice has been helping people suffering
from cancer and other life threatening illness since 1992. Over the
years we have helped many patients and their families cope with the
stress these illnesses can bring .Hospice care is free and we
continually need donations to enable us to carry on with this
important work.
Why make a will?
Making a Will is one of the most important things we should do, but
despite this, many of us die without having made one. This can mean
lengthy legal delays, and an additional burden to the loved ones who
are left to deal with your estate.
If you make a Will YOU will decide who receives your money and
possessions -without a Will the Government will decide.
To ensure your legacy goes to those people you wish to receive it,
make a will. It is then very important to keep your Will up to date,
so check it every few years to ensure it still reflects your wishes.
Making a will and leaving a legacy
Making a Will is easy and once it is done you can relax in the
knowledge that all your affairs will be in order. Beaumond House
recommend you contact a qualified solicitor to help draw up your
Will.
If you feel able to remember us in your Will we shall be deeply
grateful. Your gift will ensure we are still here in years to come,
working with patients and families to help improve the quality of
their lives in their time of need.
If you would like to leave a legacy to Beaumond House Community
Hospice please contact a solicitor who will advise you on how to
make one of the following bequests:
Pecuniary – a set amount of money.
Specific – possessions such as stocks, shares, items of jewellery.
Residuary – which allows you to remember loved ones and give a
percentage to charity. This is often the most effective.
Your solicitor will be able to help you in making your decision.
Did you know that leaving a legacy could
save you money?
Any money left to a charity is tax free and will therefore help to
reduce the tax liability on your estate. This could save your
beneficiaries money and at the same time help your community.
We shall not be forgotten, if you remember us.
Please care enough to leave us a legacy so that we may continue to
provide care to those in need of our help. A gift in your will is a
wonderful way to ensure your kindness will help future generations.
THANK YOU
Recent Events
Ladies
who Lunch
Monday 17th March saw the first of our ‘Ladies who Lunch’ events. A
lunch in the wonderful Café Bleu setting was accompanied by an
informal fashion show provided by Domino.
Each lady received a complimentary goodie bag and we had some
fabulous raffle prizes. We can’t think of a better way to spend a
lunchtime, can you ladies?
The lunch raised a fantastic £1140 and a huge thank you to all
concerned but especially Jean Francois and his team at Café Bleu and
Nick, Val and Lesley at Domino.
Designer Clothes Sale
Although
mother nature conspired against us on the weekend of the Designer
Sale, the turn-out on the Sunday was excellent, and over the two
days £8,500 was raised.
Our thanks must go to everyone who helped before and after the sale
in all sorts of ways. Thanks also to all the ladies who came along
and bought lots and lots of beautiful clothes.
We did have quite a few items left, so there will be another chance
to buy in June (date to be confirmed).
Bag
packing at M&S over Easter
Yet another successful 2 days at M&S on good Friday and Easter
Saturday saw us raise an amazing £1738.
The generosity of Marks and Spencers customers still astounds us!
Many thanks to everyone who gave so generously, we really enjoyed
packing your bags.
As always, thank you to Dean Cross and his team at M&S for inviting
us, your continued support means so much.
We’ll be back at Christmas Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday
24th December if anyone would like to help?
Mr Clive Richardson, Headteacher of Bishop
Alexander School, turns 50!!
Like
all the primary schools in the Newark area, Bishop Alexander School
are always happy to support us by selling our Christmas toys during
December.
This term they are also taking part in our ‘loose change challenge’.
Last year a group of children and teachers took part in the Lincoln
10k run and raised £400 for Beaumond House.
Mr Clive Richardson, Headteacher of Bishop Alexander School, turned
50 earlier this year.
Instead of getting presents he asked for donations to Beaumond
House. His friends, relatives and parents and children of the school
donated a staggering £800.
On behalf of the patients and staff at the Hospice, we’d like to say
a special thank you to all the staff, children and parents of Bishop
Alexander School for your continual support
Brenda Dickinson and The Muskham Hot Lunch
This
popular event has been taking place annually since 1992.
A group of ladies encouraged by Pam Dawkins decided to organise a
fundraising event for Beaumond House. But what could they do?
It had to be something different and appeal to the populace. So, the
idea of a lunch was born.
It was decided to hold a ploughman’s, Huntsman’s and Fisherman’s
Lunch.
The first lunch took place at Pam and Pat Dawkins house in 1992. We
were overwhelmed with the success of this first venture.
It was standing room only. The following year we held the lunch at
South Muskham Village Hall and in 1994 we transferred to North
Muskham to accommodate the increased numbers attending this popular
fundraising event.
Along with several ladies and gentlemen I have been very much
involved from the start, and in 1997, due to Pam’s ill health I took
over the organising of the ‘Hot Lunch’. As you all know, to make
everything successful you need a willing band of helpers, and we
have many ladies and gentlemen who help in many ways; cooking,
setting tables, flower arranging, raffles, tombolas, not to mention
washing up!
Everything is donated including the hire of the hall, wine etc which
allows ALL of the profit from the day to go to Beaumond House. Since
we started in 1992 we have donated £15,000 to the Hospice.
We are all very proud of our involvement in this worthwhile cause
and our thanks go to all the people who support us.
Brenda also runs the coffee bar at Newark’s Magistrate Court, where
all proceeds go to Beaumond House. She is always looking for
volunteers to help her in the mornings. If you could spare a few
hours please let the fundraising department know on 706802.

like to thank all the local primary schools taking part in our

This
is Clare Hardy our amazing e-bay expert. Clare is a volunteer with
Beaumond House and has been selling items on e-bay for us since
February.
To date she has made £850 profit for the Hospice through e-bay.
Thank you and a huge well done Clare. If anyone has anything they
would like us to sell on e-bay in aid of Beaumond House, please let
us know.

The Collingham Crawl and Canter

stall at the cricket ground afterwards. If you would like to join
our team, please phone the fundraising office and we’ll send you a

June is the time of year when gardens spring into life and the sun

3’ 2008, giving you 2 opportunities to enjoy those delicious
sandwiches and cakes.
Tickets cost £5 each and are available from Beaumond House reception
and our two charity shops.
We look forward to seeing you all again this year on Wednesday 18th
June.
