It’s a wonderful experience seeing the sunrise in the east over Snowdonia, and what better place to be than the summit of Snowdon itself. You could be walking up under a blanket of stars, or in the mist(!) such is this challenge! Snowdon’s weather is unpredictable and may certainly add to the challenge.
This is the earliest sunrise of the year! It reaches 0449hrs on 12 Jun, and stays that way until 23 Jun, when it begins to go backwards.
How? Along with Travel & Trek who will take you on this adventure, you will meet in the Llanberis mountain railway car park at the designated time for a full safety briefing. Each group will have at least 2 guides (1 front, 1 back) to lead you up the track in what will be relative darkness to begin with (less headtorches). As you progress, the twilight will begin to surface and it will get light well before the sun is due to break the horizon. We will reach the summit area in good time for you to relax and enjoy the sunrise. We return to Llanberis for a hearty full Welsh breakfast (you will have earned it).
If you are concerned about the lack of sleep, then consider using accommodation prior to the ascent. If you arrive in Llanberis mid/late afternoon, there is enough time to catch something to eat, and get a good few hours rest/sleep before you need to be at the meeting place.
This is particularly relevant for the ascents that have later meeting times, ie those that have 1am – 2am starts.
