A win that meant so much more

One of our loyal supporters, Nicola, recently received some exciting news when her ticket was selected as the winner of £800 in our Your Charity Lottery. Although she was delighted by her win, Nicola says her reason for playing has always been to support Beaumond House and the vital care we provide across Newark and Sherwood. Her family's personal experience of our services inspired her to give back, and her story is a powerful reminder of the impact that lottery players have on local people and their loved ones.
Receiving the good news
When Nicola received the phone call to tell her she had won the Your Charity Lottery draw on 14 August, she could hardly believe it.
"I was very surprised to receive the phone call to say that I had won as I don't win anything, so it was a great surprise."
But for Nicola, supporting the lottery has always been about much more than the chance of winning. It's about giving back to a local charity that has played a significant role in her family's life.
"It's nice to know what your money is going to and to support a local charity. It does such a wonderful job looking after those who need the care and compassion in the home and the community. We are very lucky to have it."
A personal connection
Nicola's connection to Beaumond House began when her father became seriously ill. After caring for Nicola's mum for many years, he was diagnosed with cancer and given just two to three months to live.
"He lasted four months. Your Angels came in to help Dad every day and supported us as a family. Even when they were passing, they would pop in to see if we needed anything."
The support from Beaumond House went far beyond practical care. It brought reassurance, comfort and compassion at an incredibly difficult time.
Eighteen months later, when Nicola's mum reached the end of her life, the family once again turned to Beaumond House.
"You were there for us again. Nothing was too much trouble for any of you. We will be forever grateful for the care and support you gave to us."
Generosity and support
Now, through the Your Charity Lottery, Nicola has found a way to continue supporting the charity that supported her family when they needed it most.
In a touching gesture, Nicola has already decided what she will do with her winnings.
"The first thing I'm going to do with the money is donate some back to Beaumond House. Then I'll put the rest towards a holiday."
The timing of the win also made the moment even more special. The draw took place on 14 August, which would have been her mum's birthday.
"The draw that I won the money on was on 14 August, which happens to be my mum's birthday. She's definitely watching over me."
Nicola hopes her story will inspire others to get involved.
"Your lottery is a great way to give to Beaumond House and you never know, you may be lucky. My daughter has already signed up for it."
For Nicola, the lottery win was a wonderful surprise, but the real reward is knowing that every ticket helps Beaumond House continue providing compassionate care and support to local families facing some of life's most challenging moments.
