For Della Money, Chair of Beaumond House Hospice Care's Board of Trustees, the Newark Half Marathon is about far more than crossing a finish line.
It is a personal challenge inspired by gratitude, community, and a determination to help secure the future of a hospice that has supported local families for nearly 40 years.
A connection that became personal

Ten years ago, Della joined the Board of Trustees at Beaumond House Hospice Care and gained a first-hand understanding of the vital role the hospice plays across Newark and Sherwood. That understanding became deeply personal when her father-in-law, Pete, unexpectedly needed inpatient hospice care.
"The care was everything we could have hoped for, not just for Pete but for our family. Everything I had known about Beaumond House as a Trustee became a reality and we are still so grateful."
After almost 40 years working in the NHS, retirement gave Della the opportunity to become more involved with the charity. Since November 2025, she has proudly served as Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Taking on a bigger challenge
As Chair, Della was encouraged to take part in the Newark Half Marathon to raise funds and awareness for the hospice. Having already completed the event three times, she decided to push herself further by taking on four half-marathon-distance events across four months.
The challenge began in June with the Round Sheffield event. Newark half marathon is the second milestone, followed by:
6 September: Notfast Ponton Plod, Great Ponton, Lincolnshire
27 September: Ealing Half Marathon, West London
The challenge is especially meaningful because it links two places that have shaped her life: Ealing, where she grew up, and Newark, where she has lived for more than 30 years.

From Couch to 5K to four half marathons
By her own admission, Della was a latecomer to running.
"I started with Couch to 5K around 15 years ago. I'm not a competitive runner, but I've completed four half marathons in the past 10 years. I've really had to force myself to get up early to run whilst it's cooler, but it's still been very hot."
Raising awareness when it matters most
While fundraising is a key goal, raising awareness of the hospice's services is equally important. Many people do not realise the hospice provides care in patients' homes as well as through its inpatient unit. The inpatient beds receive just over 20% NHS funding, with the remaining costs met through fundraising, donations and legacies.
Della believes community support will be crucial to ensuring these services remain available for future generations.
Powered by community
Support from family and friends has helped motivate Della throughout the challenge.
"My family has sponsored me, but it's the encouragement and support that I've appreciated most."
She gives particular credit to her husband, Nik, whose practical support, understanding and pre-run meals have helped her stay on track.
Why local support matters
As someone with a strong sense of community, Della believes local charities deserve local backing.
"Local charities are for local people. Beaumond House has served our Newark and Sherwood community for nearly 40 years."
Every donation directly supports local patients and families facing some of life's most difficult moments, ensuring they can access outstanding end-of-life care close to home.
Looking ahead
When asked what she is most looking forward to on race day, her answer is simple:
"Cooler weather!"
