Children are coming up with some wonderful ideas for the Hospice Heros campaign launched by Beaumond House Hospice Care.
The Newark hospice wants to find 100 children who will each raise £100 for the charity by doing 100 challenges.
Oliver Knight, 7, was one of the first to sign up. He has decided to tell 100 jokes and is already well on his way to his £100 target.
His latest donation came from the hospice mascot Sunshine Bear who gave him £5 when Oliver told him five of his favourite jokes.
“I wanted to do something to make people smile,” said Oliver.
Imogen Willis, 3, is going on holiday soon and will be making 100 sandcastles.
“Immy loves the seaside and we thought it would be a lovely way for her to have fun and raise money for Beaumond House,” said her mum Megan Willis.
“The hospice looked after my grandfather when he was really poorly and we will always be so grateful for their help. This is just a very small thing that we can do to say thank you.”
Caleb, 9, and Sophia, 4, West are walking 100k of dedicated walks during the summer holidays. They are aware that Beaumond House helped their Grandma, who sadly they never got to meet, so they get involved with any fundraising that they can.
Olivia Newport,5, is going to ride 100 laps of the park track on her bicycle while Skye,10, and Lewis Reiger, 9, are planning to walk 100 miles over eight days when they go on holiday in the Scottish Highlands with their grandparents.
“There are some fantastic ideas coming in,” said head of fundraising and marketing, Cathy Lowe.
“But we still need to find some more Hospice Heros so please think about taking part. I know many children complain they are bored during the summer holidays and this would give them something really special to do.”
BeanBlock Café in Newark hosted a special Hospice Heros party on Thursday where children jointly completed 100 challenges with the encouragement of Sunshine Bear.
“It was such a lovely occasion,” said volunteer co-ordinator Lucy Millard.
“The children were so enthusiastic and everybody had a fantastic time – especially Sunshine Bear.”
To take part children must register with the hospice and they need to bring the money they have raised to Beaumond House by September 3.
Each Hospice Hero who completes their challenges will receive a mini Hospice Hero bear and a thank-you certificate which will be presented at the Newark Dragon Boat Race Festival on September 19.
