Beaumond House Hospice is pleased to announce its first solo fundraising event since the start of the Covid pandemic.
The Starlight Stride is a 10k walk through Newark on 25th June for families and friends who have lost a loved one.
Maria Hewit, who is a receptionist at Beaumond House, says why she has signed up.
“I am taking part in the Starlight Stride in memory of my lovely Mum and my beautiful friend Sarah. Mum attended Day Therapy weekly which she loved and this gave my Dad a much needed break. Sarah was supported by Hospice at Home and then spent her final hours at BH where she felt safe.
I have witnessed how BH can help families in sheer times of desperation. I wish to raise much needed funds to enable BH to continue to provide the fantastic care and support to the local community”.
The hospice is partnering with Newark Rugby Club to host this event. The route, through the historic town centre, takes in the castle and Beaumond House where walkers will be invited to take a moment to remember loved ones. It ends at the rugby club where finishers will receive goodies and a hot drinks.
Melissa Gaffney, Beaumond House Fundraising Events Manager says,
“After such an emotionally strenuous couple of years, I think to be able to gather like this, will really reflect the spirit of our community. With this event, we’ll bring our supporters together to do something amazing for a loved one.
The Starlight Stride is open to everyone, whether you’ve lost a loved one with Beaumond House or not. It will be a welcoming atmosphere, heartwarming and fun event for everyone.”
Dave Pick from Newark Rugby says, “many members of the club and their families, at their time of greatest need when a family member is terminally ill, have had to turn to the fantastic support offered by Beaumond House. The support they give is all free of charge. Beaumond House receives around £500,000 from the Clinical Commission Group (NHS) with the balance of funding, around £750,000, having to be raised from the local community.
Newark Rugby Club are proud to be associated with Beaumond House and we have offered our facilities free of charge for the fund-raising event.
The walk is open to anyone over the age of 16 who has lost a loved one (under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult).
It costs £15 per person and the hospice ask that all participants raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship. If you would like to book a group of 10 or more, please contact Melissa at fundraising@beaumondhouse.co.uk.
Registration will be open between 6:30-7:30pm and the walk starts at 8pm.
