Surrounded by Care, Compassion and Dignity - Kathleen’s Story

Kathleen, 82, has had a special connection with Beaumond House ever since our doors first opened. She came to have a look around all those years ago and has kindly supported the hospice by donating ever since.

When Kathleen received a terminal diagnosis, she turned to Beaumond House for care and support. Kathleen has expressed her wish to be in the Hospice at the end of her life. She feels it would offer comfort and peace of mind to both her and her family, describing the care at Beaumond House as nothing short of ‘5 star.’

Kathleen is currently supported by our Hospice at Home team and attends our Day Therapy sessions. The Hospice at Home team help her feel safe and independent, especially with things like showering. She knows they’re keeping an eye on her wellbeing and making sure any changes are passed on to the relevant care professionals.

Kathleen says the visits twice a week are a real lifeline; not just for practical support, but because it gives her someone to talk to about the things she doesn’t want to burden her family with.

Day Therapy has also become a joyful part of her week. Although she was a little nervous to begin with, it’s turned out to be full of fun, laughter, surprises, and delicious food! She loves the friendly, relaxed atmosphere and looks forward to every visit.

What stands out most to Kathleen is the warmth and kindness of everyone she meets at Beaumond House, staff and volunteers alike. She feels listened to and supported, knowing that whatever challenges she may face, the team will always find a way to help.

Kathleen told us,

“I can’t imagine Beaumond House not being part of my life right until the end.”

She feels reassured knowing that when the time comes, she’ll be surrounded by care, compassion, and dignity, just as it should be.
