This week, we proudly join the celebration of Volunteers’ Week 2025, recognising the amazing dedication, kindness, and time that our volunteers give so generously
At Beaumond House, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do.
Whether it's offering a listening ear, supporting patients and families, helping in our shops, or lending a hand behind the scenes, your contribution makes a real difference to our hospice and our community.
Here, some of our wonderful volunteers share a little insight as to why they have chosen to volunteer for Beaumond House...
Mike Pye – Shop Volunteer, Southwell. Joined 2022
What made you volunteer with Beaumond House?
I volunteer to help out with Beaumond House – to give something back and to help people generally.
What do you get from volunteering?
All sorts of reasons. I get to meet people and make friends. It gets me out of the house!
What would you say to anyone considering volunteering with Beaumond House?
Just do it. You’ll enjoy it. Everyone is so friendly and helpful.
Val Johnson – Shop Volunteer, Stodman Street. Joined 2005?
What made you volunteer with Beaumond House?
I just get such enjoyment out of it. You have the chance to see people and you never know who’s coming through those doors!
What do you get from volunteering?
Beaumond House is help for local people. You never know when you might need them, and I did need them when my husband died.
What would you say to anyone considering volunteering with Beaumond House?
I’d tell them to come. You’ll never regret it. There’s always laughter and fun. I love it, I do!

What made you volunteer with Beaumond House?
A mixture of things. I needed to keep busy and put my energies into something really worthwhile.
What do you get from volunteering?
It’s lovely to meet new people, to be active and be part of the local community.’
What would you say to anyone considering volunteering with Beaumond House?
Just go for it. It’s the best thing, it really is.

What made you volunteer with Beaumond House?
To help, and to put something back. I wanted to do a voluntary role having finished my working life.
What do you get from volunteering?
The satisfaction of doing something simply for the love of it. It helps to keep the old brain active now I’m no longer working.
What would you say to anyone considering volunteering with Beaumond House?
You’ve got to give it a go. Even if it’s not for you then you’ve tried it.
