Christmas is a time of celebration, feasts, smiles, laughter and family.
Everything around us at this time of year promotes fun and being together with those we love and care for. Beaumond House embraces the Christmas cheer.
The hospice is a special place, especially at this time of year. Our patients love to celebrate Christmas with all the traditional foods and of course all the trimmings. The patients enjoy visits from carol singers, school choirs, the different churches and of course, Santa. But Beaumond House provides more than this for our patients and their families at Christmas.
Most of us look forward to Christmas but we acknowledge that it can also be a difficult time of year.
Beaumond House provides a space where people can talk about the sadness they feel knowing that loved ones and friends they have made at the hospice may no longer be with them at Christmas.
They can talk about their worries, about how they will cope without the people they have lost, how difficult it is thinking about this possibly being their last Christmas with their families and friends and how they support their families through this difficult time.
Beaumond House is the place where they find comfort, they can talk to others who are in the same situation and understand or share their thoughts with staff. They don’t always have to wear a happy face.
Christmas is also a time when staff reflect on the loss and sadness they have experienced throughout the year.
A time when they think of those they have cared for who are no longer with us.
We hope that the support offered by the staff, volunteers, patients, and their families will help you through the difficult moments and help you enjoy this special time with loved ones.
Sue a volunteer of six years, spoke of how much she enjoys her time at Beaumond House and how often she is surrounded by love and laughter, Sue has built. friendships and strong connections with those she spends time with and loves to hear peoples’ stories but also shares in their loss, their sadness and talk about their fears and concerns. Beaumond House is a joyous place, especially at Christmas.
During my time in Day Therapy, I had a lovely conversation with Sue, who has been a volunteer at Beaumond House for over six years.
Sue shared how lucky she feels to be part of the Beaumond House family. She looks forward to her ‘special’ day each week, recognising the connections and relationships that form and how much these visits mean to everyone involved.
The groups support one another, sharing laughter and fun while also acknowledging and expressing their sadness, loss, and fears. Celebrating Christmas at Beaumond House is a highlight of Sue’s year. She loves that her time volunteering is spent surrounded by love, joy, and laughter, and is always overwhelmed by the acceptance, understanding, and support provided by everyone at Beaumond House.
Sue always leaves feeling uplifted and, without hesitation, described it as a truly joyful place to be anytime, but especially at Christmas.
