Joyce, a 97-year-old Day Therapy patient at Beaumond House, has two different yet meaningful experiences with the hospice.
Her first story began when her husband, Ken, returned home after a hospital stay. Hospice at Home stepped in to support his care, but it soon became clear that both Ken and Joyce needed more support Ken agreed to stay at Beaumond House.
Although Joyce didn’t know what to expect, she was deeply moved by the exceptional care he received and how content he was there. Ken passed away peacefully at Beaumond House, with Joyce by his side, holding his hand.
She was especially grateful that a therapy dog had visited Ken, knowing how much he loved animals. Joyce takes comfort in knowing that Ken couldn't have received better care, and it helps her with her loss to know this.
Returning home after losing Ken was incredibly hard for Joyce. As Joyce has a palliative diagnosis, her granddaughter suggested that Joyce tried Day Therapy. #
Now, just four weeks later, Joyce attends regularly and has begun her second chapter with Beaumond House. She enjoys chatting, listening to conversations, and seeing familiar faces at the sessions.
Joyce feels safe, supported, and involved in the Day Therapy sessions. It gives her family some respite while helping her combat loneliness. She is grateful for the care and attention she receives at Beaumond House and feels comfortable asking questions, knowing they will be answered.
Joyce hopes to spend her final days at Beaumond House, confident she will be well cared for, just as her husband was.
