Proposed Changes to Day Therapy and Catering Services

Beaumond House Hospice Care is saddened to share the news that we have begun proposals to withdraw our Day Therapy service, reduce Catering Services, and transition Complementary Therapy and Bereavement Counselling into paid-for services.

Louise Sinclair, CEO of Beaumond House Hospice Care :

“Like many hospices, Beaumond House Hospice Care has experienced a dramatic rise in running costs over recent years. While our income has also significantly increased thanks to the ongoing support of our communities, it has not kept up with the rise in the costs to deliver our care.

“This year, we are facing a shortfall of over £400,000, meaning we have had to review our current services for patients and families to ensure the long-term sustainability of Beaumond House.

“We have had to make the difficult decision to enter into a consultation process to withdraw our Day Therapy services and reduce our Catering services from 25 June 2026, along with transitioning Complementary Therapy and Bereavement Counselling into paid-for services.

“During this incredibly difficult time, we are supporting our colleagues, volunteers, patients, families and carers.

“Based from the hospice in Newark, our Day Therapy service currently supports 28 people living with life-limiting conditions. We recognise and understand how important it is that these patients, along with their families and carers, learn of this news appropriately and with compassion. Our teams are making face-to-face meetings or personal phone calls to each patient to offer support where needed.

“We are proud of the support our Day Therapy service has given to so many in our community over the years. However, the gap between our income and our costs continues to rise despite our communities supporting us more than ever.

“Next year will be our 40th birthday, and we must safeguard our long-term sustainability so we can continue being here for our communities for the next 40 years and beyond.

“No hospice ever wants to withdraw services, especially at a time when an ageing population means the need for our care continues to rapidly rise. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for our leadership team and Trustees to make.

“We want to continue being there for patients and families when they need us most. However, we must focus our charitable resources and our funding to have the greatest impact for people at the end of life. For us at Beaumond House, that is with our Inpatient Beds and Hospice at Home care.

“We know that people reading this news may feel a strong urge to support in a number of different ways. The most impactful way you can help is by supporting the hospice financially.

“This year, the gap between our costs and our funding will be £2.2 million, and this gap must be filled through donations, our shops and the incredible support from our local communities. "
