Volunteers have always been crucial to Beaumond House and we are extremely fortunate to have a wonderful team who help us in so many ways.
The pandemic meant that some of our volunteers weren't able to continue their volunteer work at the moment but we are happy to be gradually welcoming our volunteers back.
Annmarie Kitchen has been a volunteer for over two years … here she explains what it means to her.
"Volunteering gives me something more than any monetary value can. I have struggled with mental health and it gives me the opportunity to give something back to the community.
It enables me to get out to meet other people and boosts my confidence and self-esteem.
Since being at Beaumond House I have been able to meet many challenges with the support of the volunteer co-ordinator and the rest of the team.
At first I thought it would be a sad place to work but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The hospice is full of warm welcomes and smiles from everybody, especially the day patients who come to enjoy each other’s company.
There are many volunteering opportunities at the hospice – I help with the administration and reception.
I also enjoy helping with the fundraising, which is vital, and often help guide our Sunshine Bear Mascot around the Market Place or in the hospice gardens. The children love him and always want to give him a hug.
The initial training gives you the opportunity to meet other volunteers – some want to enhance their CV’s, others are retired and some have a little spare time on their hands and want to do something worthwhile.
I always feel valued and leave Beaumond House with a smile. I was particularly proud to receive a bronze flagship award from the chief executive after being nominated by several members of the team.
Thank you so much Beaumond House."
